So today we had the screening of our short animations for the third years at UWE, school of animation.
The variety of short animations was amazing, and I enjoyed everyone of them, but I definitely had my favourites.
Below are some links to a few that stood out to me personally.
Slowly Butte Surely - Bec Green, Hannah Bentham, Arty Hunt
Hoot - Elise Townsend, Steph Cave and Rebecca Fielding.
The Floor is Lava - Luke Taylor and Niall Mahon
Thanks to everyone who got involved!

Victoria Ying
An illustrator/concept artist recommended to me by my tutor, partly for website layout and partly for her concept work.
Victoria Ying (part of ECA Michael Yamanda) has worked on big projects for Disney, Pixar and Simon and Schuster, among others.
What I love about her work is her ability to adapt and change. Though a lot of her concept follow the same vein stylisticly, her illustrations and personal work change dramatically from piece to piece. From 'wreck-it-ralph', anime style, cutesy-pop girls in bright colours, to blocky-robots, to lustrous, sexual women, to fashion illustration style watercolours, it seems Victoria can cover it all.
I admire this, as I like changing styles often, and dramatically. Though I appreciate when someone has found a niche, and a idiosycratic style truely suited to them, I have never been one of those artists. So I embrace my eclectic nature!

Michelle Kondrich
Freelance illustrator, specialising in editorials, storyboards and whiteboard illustrations. Known for her use of ink and watercolour. Thought I'd add this one to the stack as I particularly like her use of texture and line (especially in the image below)

Also her website is cleanly and concisely laid out... what I imagine I'd want mine to look like when I've finished it. It allows the reader to access her work, sorted into categories such as whiteboard illustration, recipe comics and then a general portfolio. A link to her blog is also useful and a way to follow her work further.

Another one from Cartoon Saloon:
Nora Twomey.
Short film From Darkness.
Again a nice use of texture in animation, particularly like how the use of flickering fire light keeps a still image from becoming 'dead'.

I found a few stills from the Song of the Sea, an animated film by Tomm Moore here:
Animation Tid Bits
I took to the beautifully intricate images and looked into this film. It is amazing.
I would like to adapt the textured backgrounds , and painterly style into my own work throughout the year.

I came across this trailer today, I hadn't previously heard of this film, but thought it was a brilliant example of how a soundtrack can lead a trailer (in tempo and velocity) as well as setting a tone for the whole film.
